It is probably only a matter of time before hackers will exploit a serious vulnerability in the SMBv3 protocol, so users of Windows 10 are encouraged to install the new security fix as soon as possible.
Recently, Microsoft discovered that there is a serious vulnerability in protocol SMBv3 (CVE-2020-0796) that can be exploited by hackers to run malicious code. In the worst case, there could be talk of a similar situation as when Wannacry and Notpetya created chaos in 2017, that is, the code spread from computer to computer on their own.
Due to the serious vulnerability, Microsoft chose to release a critical security update for Windows 10 on Thursday. The versions in question are 1903 and 1909, this is because older versions do not use the current protocol.
According to Microsoft’s Security Bulletin, there are no signs that hackers are exploiting the vulnerability in the current state, but probably it’s only a matter of time before such is the case. In other words, all users are encouraged to install the security fix as soon as possible to be on the safe side.
