Since the game was released 25 years ago, it has become something of a sport among programmers to try to incorporate the game in as many places as possible.

Now one of them, Sylvain Lefebvre, has taken it so far that he has created a machine that can only play Doom and nothing else. Something that was first noticed by Engadget.

“Doom chip” is built with 666 lines of code burned into the wires, lookup tables and flip-flops on a Cyclone V FPGA circuit board. There is no CPU, OP code or instruction counter, but there is Doom. And for Sylvain Lefebvre, that’s all that matters.
