The public is urged not to spread pictures of their certificates or results on social media as this helps cybercriminals to create fake certificates.
The security company Check Point is now warning of an increasing trend where fake vaccination certificates have started to be sold via Darknet. The certificates sell for around $ 200 and can be paid with bitcoin. Advertising for fake covid-19 vaccines is also said to have increased by 300 percent. Fake vaccines sell for about $ 500 while fake negative tests are promised in 30 minutes for $ 25.
There are lots of activities related to the covid-19 vaccinations. When our researchers began researching the range on Darknet three months ago, there were a few hundred ads linked to Moderna and Pfizer, but the development has continued and now there are also fake vaccines, certificates and tests from a large number of companies and other, says Jonas Bruzelius , Sweden manager at Check Point, in a press release.
The public is now urged not to spread pictures of their certificates or results on social media as this helps cybercriminals to create fake certificates similar to the real ones.
