Some of the hijacked accounts are then used to buy V-Bucks in Fortnite.

Over the past month, several Nintendo Switch owners have reported that their accounts have been hacked, Zdnet reports. How many accounts have been affected and how they have been hacked is currently unclear.

Several users say they also lost money by the hackers buying the digital Fornite currency V-Bucks, which is suspected of being sold further online. On some occasions, the hackers will also have purchased entire games through the victims’ accounts.

Nintendo itself has not commented on it all, but earlier this month they recommended all users via Twitter and Reddit to turn on 2-step verification for their Nintendo accounts.

How to setup 2-step verification

1. Log in to accounts.nintendo.com.
2. Select Sign-in and security settings from the right menu.
3. Under 2-Step Verifications Settings you will find what you are looking for. Follow the instructions, which include downloading an authentication app, and 30 seconds later everything is arranged.
